Karl Marsten is a recurring character in Bitten.

Early History[]

A hereditary werewolf, Karl was brought up as a Mutt. His father was murdered when Karl was just sixteen years old, and he later followed in his footsteps to become a professional thief. In the years afterward, he made several attempts to ask the Pack to grant him territory but was constantly refused. This would later influence his decision to join the Mutt uprising led by Daniel Santos.

Throughout Bitten[]

Season One[]

Karl first appears in "Trespass," after the Pack contacts him looking for information on a Mutt. Unknown to them, he is part of the plot to overthrow the North American Pack, but tensions quickly arise between him and other members of the uprising. In "Ready," he betrays them by helping Elena kill Thomas LeBlanc and later cornering Daniel Santos. When confronted by Jeremy, he surrenders and is spared as a result.

Season Two[]

His role during this season was very minor.

Season Three[]

He and Zachary Cain are called in by Jeremy to help defend Stonehaven. At the end of "Of Sonders Weight," Clay discovers a thumb drive containing a video of Karl being beaten by unknown forces, later revealed to be the Russian pack. When Elena becomes Alpha, she decides to let werewolves choose whether to be part of the pack or not. Karl pledges his loyalty to Elena and officially joins the pack. In the series finale, he is killed after refusing to recognize Konstantin Saranin as his Alpha.

Personality[]

Unlike most Mutts, Karl is charming, sophisticated and sociable, in part due to his partiality towards the finer things and his lucrative lifestyle as a jewel thief. His behavior can perplex almost anyone he meets, and his motives can be equally questionable; as he explains to Elena, he joined the mutt uprising not because the Pack had ever done anything to him, but rather because they had never done anything for him, meaning his rebellion was nothing personal but rather motivated by personal gain. He is also shown to be self-aware of his own behavior, seen when he admits that Elena has no reason to trust him even after he helps her kill LeBlanc.

In the end, he redeems himself and proves loyal to the Pack until his death.
